The map below shows Horace Rice's movements with the 44th New York Infantry during the year  1864.

 

After camping out at Beverly Ford, Horace Rice's unit joined in on the Campaign from the Rapdin to the James on May 3, 1864. Horace Rice fought in the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5th. Next he fought at Spotsylvania before joining in on the Assault on the Salient on May 23rd, 1864. On June 16th, 1864, he participated in on the Siege of Petersburg. On October 6th, Horace Rice was  transferred into the 140th New York Infantry. Three days later, on October 9th, 1864, he was mustered out of the army.

Horace Rice fought in 9 different battles during his time with the 44th. The chart below shows that many of his comrades in the 44th Regiment were killed during the war.
