Horace's Death
When Horace reached his older age he experienced a lot of pain from colic attacks. He was suffering and had been since he recovered from his gunshot wound. He passed away on March 17th, 1884. He had some neighbors and Maria around him when he passed away in his home.
The cause of his death was inflammation of the bowels. The cause of the inflammation came from one such attack of colic. He had been prescribed medicine for the attacks, but it was not enough to keep him alive. After his death, his wife Maria continued to battle the Pensions Office to obtain the pension Horace had been receiving before his death. As the picture shows, it was not an easy battle and she was often rejected.
