Witnesses and those who filed statements to prove marriage and death include Maria Rice, W. Thorne, Gilbert Thorne, Chas. Houghtaling, and Chas. Barnum. All of those who filed are from Minnesota and four out of the five from Hastings, where Maria lives. Horace and Maria were married on December 4, 1867. Horace was pensioned at $2/month for a gunshot wound to his left middle finger. He died of disease.
